   Notes: I am pleased to announce 'Wa Jo' - a brand new single by Les Amazones d'Afrique which will be released on a bonus edition of their latest album Musow Danse on 19 November.
2. "Imazighen" - Bab L'Bluz - Swaken [Real World: 2024]
   Notes: Come, enter the world of Swaken, the much anticipated second album by French-Moroccan power quartet Bab L' Bluz, released on Real World Records on 10 May, 2024. For the most part, Mansour writes and sings in Darija, her Moroccan-Arabic dialect, and the preferred language of the Nayda movement ('nayda' means 'up' in Darija). On Swaken she confronts such contentious topics as Moroccan inheritance laws, gender wage disparities and rising cases of suicide and depression while calling for unity, tolerance, and kindness in an increasingly fragile world.
3. "Pull The Rope" - Ibibio Sound Machine - Pull The Rope [Merge: 2024]
   Notes: Further honing the edge of their acclaimed 2022 album 'Electricity', the connection they aim to foster has shifted venues from the sunny buoyancy of a sunlit festival to a sweat-soaked, all-night dance club.
4. "Suave y Pegao" - Dayme Arocena - Alkemi [Brownswood: 2024]
   Notes: Born in Havana in 1992, Daymé grew up immersed in Afro-Cuban folk, but also listening to cassette tapes of Sade Adu, her father's favorite singer. She was identified as a prodigious talent at only 8 years old and soon started studying music.
5. "Ma olen maa peal v66ras" - 6hunesseq - Ma olen maa peal v66ras [Nordic Notes: 2024]
   Notes: The quartet's name, 6hunesseq, means "humidity" in the South Estonian language of Võro. During the concert, they sang old folk hymns in traditional Baltic-Finnish styles known as runo to a standing-room audience. The vocalists were accompanied by a keyboard and an instrument called Hiiu kannel in Estonian or Tagelharpa - a horsehair harp that's also played in Sweden.
6. "Selo Moje" - Gordan - Gordan [Glitterbeat: 2024]
   Notes: This self-titled 2nd album from this acclaimed transnational (Serbia / Germany / Austria) experimental trio, fuses traditional Balkan vocalizations with feedback, electronic sound generators, pulsing bass, and hypnotic drumming.
7. "Antloyf Mit Mir" - Dobranotch - Vander Ikh Mir Lustik [CPL-Music: 2024]
   Notes: 2023 was not an easy year for Dobranotch, the Klezmer band from Saint Petersburg: After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, part of the ensemble left the country and settled in exile in Germany. It was not an easy decision for the musicians. "We left behind family, friends, and fans without the certainty of ever seeing them again", writes the band. Half of the members remained in Russia.
8. "Raven" - Vedan Kolod - Birds [CPL-Music: 2024]
   Notes: Vedan Kolod comes from Siberian Russia and is a whole family group: Tatiana Naryshkina (soloist, vocal), Valerii Naryshkin (instruments, all made by himself) and Alisa Naryshkina (12 y.o. on tambourine). This album also consists of Scythian Harp - the only one ancient instrument in existence and restored by Valerii from Scythes times which was found in permafrost in Altai mountains.
9. "It's All In Your Mind" - Hermanos Gutierrez - Sonido Cosmico [Easy Eye Sound: 2024]
   Notes: Hermanos Gutiérrez (Spanish for "Gutiérrez Brothers") is a Latin instrumental band formed in 2015 in Zürich by Ecuadorian-Swiss brothers Alejandro Gutiérrez (guitar and lap steel) and Estevan Gutiérrez (guitar and percussion).
10. "Dona Felipa" - Orquesta Akokan - Caracoles [Daptone: 2024]
    Notes: 'Caracoles' ushers Orquesta Akokán's unique brand of mambo into the 21st century, imbuing it with the group's signature sense of akokán - a Cuban Yoruba word meaning "from the heart."
11. "Maisha" - The Zawose Queens - Maisha [Real World: 2024]
    Notes: The Zawose Queens, Pendo and Leah Zawose, showcase the fluid polyrhythms and rapturous polyphonic singing of the Gogo (aka Wagogo) people of the arid, hilly Dodoma region of central Tanzania. The most famous exponent of this musical tradition is the late, great Dr Hukwe Zawose (Pendo's father and Leah's grandfather).
12. "Dannibe Pinne" - Tidiane Thiam - Africa Yontii [Sahel Sounds: 2024]
    Notes: Hailing from the sleepy fishing Senegalese fishing town of Podor, home of the great Baaba Maal, Thiam taught himself guitar by playing along to late-night radio broadcasts of Manding music.
13. "The White Snake Song" - Fink-Marxer-Tian - From China to Appalachia [Community Music Inc.: 2024]
    Notes: Grammy Award winners and multi-instrumentalists Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer have joined creative forces with Chinese hammered dulcimer virtuoso Chao Tian for their upcoming global, and roots music project, From China to Appalachia available August 16, 2024.
14. "Mis Soledades" - Meridian Brothers - Mi Latinoamerica Sufre [Ansonia Records: 2024]
    Notes: Acclaimed Colombian indie artist Meridian Brothers - the project of Eblis Álvarez - released his new album Mi Latinoamerica Sufre via Ansonia Records. Framed as a concept album, its sonic footprint was born from the desire to explore the untapped potential of the electric guitar in a tropical Latin context. Mi Latinoamérica Sufre pays homage to the golden era of 70's Congolese rumba, Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian afrobeat.
15. "Um Vento Passou (Paul Simon)" - Nascimento/spalding - Milton esperanza [Concord: 2024]
    Notes: Recorded in Brazil over the course of 2023, Milton esperanza is a dream-come-true collaboration and musical representation of a friendship that was first kindled nearly 15 years ago.
