WTJU Rock Best of 2023 – Rocker Panels
By WTJU Rock
Daniel Bachman – When the Roses Come Again – Three Lobed – I just can’t stop listening to this. I haven’t spun it much on my show because I don’t want to interrupt its beauty by playing only a portion of it.
William Tyler & The Impossible Truth – Merge – Live record from an incredible band. The show in Cville this August was just as worth the parise.
Lil Yachty – Let’s Start Here – Quality Control – I can’t believe this is a Lil’ Yachty record and neither can anyone else except the artist himself, i guess. It’s so dreamy and groovy.
Easy Star All-Stars – Ziggy Stardub – Easy Star – I mean, this has to be one of the biggest underappreciated records of the year. WTJU spun the sh*t out of it though with good reason.
Dave Easley – Ballads – Big Ego – I melt every time I put on this album of jazz covers. Steel Guitar and Jeff Parker? yup.
Rose City Band – Garden Party – Thrill Jockey – This one grew on me as I prefer the quicker tempo from Ripley Johnson but this is a lovely record.
Animal Collective – Isn’t It Now – Domino – the return of some solid AnCo tracks!
MMW & MMSW – Friday Afternoon In the Universe/Shack Man/ A Go Go – Real Gone/Verve – all re-released on vinyl this year; thank GOD
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – June 1st, 2nd, 3rd @ The Caverns, Grundy, TN – What a unique and incredible weekend
Baba Commandant – May 23rd – Visible Records – It was so great to see a band like them at a new venue in town. It was a wonderful show and the vibe was so fresh.
