Offstage, On-Air is a weekly show highlighting central Virginia’s vibrant classical music community. Each week you’ll hear conversations with local classical musicians, learn about upcoming concerts, and enjoy artist-curated playlists. Tune in Sunday from noon to 1:00pm here on WTJU (91.1 FM and streaming at wtju.net). This week’s guest is Nationally Registered Music Educator, performer, and Music Director of the Charlottesville Band, Steve Layman.
Charlottesville Band’s Summer Season begins on June 6 at The Paramount Theatre, the Band’s summer home since 2008. Admission is free! Their schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, June 6: Around the World in 60 Minutes–This concert will feature concerto competition winner, Lizzie Mayhood, playing the Chaminade Concertino for Flute, and our principal horn, Becky Allen, performing Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 3 in E-Flat.
Wednesday, July 5: Patriots and Princesses–This concert will feature James Prodan performing Gabriel’s Oboe, Martha McKechnie singing “How Far I’ll Go” and “Let It Go” from the Disney favorites, Moana and Frozen, and Robert Mott performing Hymn to the Earth on bass trombone.
Tuesday, August 15: American Songs–This concert will feature composer Richard Domek’s composition, Trombone Job, and his arrangement of Caprice Valsant featuring Greg Harris on xylophone.Each week, Offstage, On-Air brings members of the local classical music community into the WTJU studio for conversations and curated playlists.
