Offstage, On-Air is a weekly show highlighting central Virginia’s vibrant classical music community. Each week you’ll hear conversations with local classical musicians, learn about upcoming concerts, and enjoy artist-curated playlists. Tune in Sunday from noon to 1:00pm here on WTJU (91.1 FM and streaming at wtju.net). This week’s guest is renowned English pianist, author and public speaker Nick Van Bloss, who has had a major career as both a concert pianist and a recording artist.
Van Bloss began piano lessons at age 11 and entered the Royal College of Music at age 15, where he won multiple competitions while still a student. At age 26, he stepped away from performance and remained away for 15 years, during which time he wrote a memoir, Busy Body, and presented a BBC documentary inspired by the book. He began a series of recordings in 2008 and returned to the concert stage in 2009. His recordings of Bach’s Goldberg Variations andKeyboard Concertos, among others, have received universal acclaim.
Nick is stopping by the WTJU studios en route to Radford University, where he will be working closely with students in the music department and presenting a recital on Wednesday, January 18 at the Davis Performance Hall in the Covington Center in Radford, Virginia.
