A Musical Tribute to Film Composer James Horner
By WTJU
Composer James Horner, who has died in an airplane crash aged 61, won two Oscars for writing the soundtrack to James Cameron’s Titanic (1997) and a number of Oscar nominations for other Hollywood blockbusters, including Braveheart (1995) and A Beautiful Mind (2001), the story of John Nash, who died in a car crash exactly one month ago.
James Horner also wrote the music to Field of Dreams, Legends of the Fall, The Mask of Zorro and several Star Trek movies. We’ll remember James Horner this Friday morning at about 7:30 am during Classical Sunrise, by playing a selection of his best music.
In the final hour, the show will also include the Trio for Piano and Strings in B-Major, D 28 by Schubert and, at the end, Nikolaus Harnoncourt will conduct the Symphony No 39 in E Flat Major by Mozart, which was completed on June 26, 1788 and which Mr. Harnoncourt, having studied it for 60 years, is convinced was intended as the first of three symphonies – all as parts of a single work.
I hope you’ll join us this Friday morning, 6-9 am, here on WTJU.
