John D’earth goes track by track through Coin of the Realm

Trumpet player, composer, bandleader and UVa Director of Jazz Performance, John D’earth will be joining Rus Perry on Jazz at 100 Now! to chat about the new release by the John D’earth Quintet – Coin of the Realm. The seven tune set features D’earth compositions performed by D’earth with long-time collaborators JC Kuhl on tenor, Daniel Clarke on piano, (fellow UVa faculty member) Peter Spaar on bass and Devonne Harris on drums. Ranging from up-tempo romps to tender ballads, the disc brings out the substantial chops of the individual players and their bandstand-honed cohesion as a performing unit.
