WTJU Celebrates Public Radio Music Day
By WTJU
Date: 10/23/2024
Time: 12:00 am - 11:59 pm
Public Radio Music Day is a nationwide celebration uniting public radio music stations, lawmakers, fans, artists, and other members of the music industry to celebrate and spread the word about the special role noncommercial stations play in the music industry both locally and nationally. This year, our theme “Bringing People Together: From Coast to Coast” highlights how public radio music bridges divides, unites communities around a shared love of music and local artists, and reaches across the country to serve urban and rural communities alike.
Live Performance:
WTJU will be hosting a special live music event in celebration of Public Radio Music Day. On Wednesday, October 23, 8 – 9 p.m., flautist Nicole Mitchell‘s Harambee Ensemble will take the Stage, performing a selection of her compositions, and featuring electric guitarist Varun Kishore, bassist Rushil Umaretiya, and percussionist JoVia Armstrong. This free event is open to all at 2244 Ivy Rd. You can also listen on 91.1 FM, stream via wtju.net, and video stream on WTJU’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
The core themes of the Alliance: Discovery, Curation, Preservation, Performance and Community.
Discovery
Public radio music stations help listeners discover and explore music they’ve never heard before. From new and emerging artists to the classics, noncommercial music is only found on public radio. See how our discovery is shaping the music world.
Curation
Our creative volunteer hosts at WTJU ensure that you never get bored with the music you hear by carefully curating the day’s playlist. noncomMUSIC Alliance helps us have access to the best music to keep things fresh for you.
Preservation
Preservation isn’t always about museums and artifacts. WTJU helps keep freeform radio alive by introducing new audiences to music that would otherwise be forgotten or lost. Learn more at noncomMUSIC Alliance.
