Date: 09/15/2024

Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This week on Offstage, On-Air we’ll have a conversation with cellist N. Scott Johnson, who is playing a live performance in the Fralin Museum‘s immersive exhibition, Barbara Hammer: Evidentiary Bodies. In collaboration with Hammer, Scott composed the film’s score which accompanies the installation.

N. Scott Johnson is an architect, artist, cellist and composer whose work explores public space, performance, and memory. Johnson started composing after a chance meeting with filmmaker Barbara Hammer in the Stockholm airport. Connecting over a conversation about avant-garde music and film, Hammer asked Johnson to perform his cello during an upcoming performance. During rehearsals, Hammer encouraged him to improvise. These jam sessions became the basis for the musical score to Hammer’s final film, Evidentiary Bodiesincluding Duet for Cello and Film, composed to be performed live with screenings of the film.

Each week Offstage, On-Air brings members of the local classical music community into the WTJU studio for conversations and curated playlists. Listen live in on 91.1FM or stream at wtju.net. You can also listen to the rebroadcast the following Tuesday at 9 p.m. and Friday at 1 p.m. on charlottesvilleclassical.org.
