Want to get behind the mic and make some great radio & podcasts? Then join WTJU this summer for one of our 2024 camps!
What:
Students will learn the basics of audio production, conduct interviews, and produce a podcast to air on WTJU’s sister radio station, WXTJ 100.1 FM! Students also learn about eclectic genres of music that make WTJU such a unique media operation.
In order to nurture a creative environment, WTJU’s radio & podcast camps are capped at a small number of students with a lot of support from camp staff. For the 2024 camps, we will have a student-teacher ratio of approximately 5-to-1.
Who:
Upper Elementary and Middle school students.
High school students can apply for a separate internship by contacting wtju@virginia.edu or calling 434-924-0885.
When:
Middle School camp (ages 11-14): June 17-21, 9am-3pm daily.
Upper Elementary School camp (ages 8-11): June 24-28, 9am-3pm daily.
Middle + Upper Elementary School camp (ages 8-14): July 8-12, 9am-3pm daily.
Extended day child care with pickup by 5:30pm is available for an additional fee.
Where:
This year’s camps will be delivered in-person at WTJU’s studios: 2244 Ivy Road, Charlottesville.
Why:
Because podcasts and community radio are awesome. Plus, the camps seamlessly combine creativity, tech, and confidence-building.
Cost:
$350 per student. Sibling discounts available. And scholarships are available for those with a financial need. Inquire with Nathan at Nathan.Moore@virginia.edu or 434-924-0885.
Includes tuition, snacks, & beverages. Lunch is NOT included. Students are expected to bring their own lunch.
