WTJU and the UVA Career Center are pleased to partner on a monthly series of Public Media Career Talks. While these are primarily for UVA students, they are free and open to all.

Producer, NPR’s Morning Edition

Paige Waterhouse is a producer at NPR’s Morning Edition and Up First podcast. She got her start in radio as a student intern with WTJU and show host with WXTJ. Paige graduated from UVA with a double major in English and Media Studies in the spring of 2022. She’s currently living in Los Angeles, California, working with the west coast Morning Edition team and host A Martinez.

CASEY KUHN

PBS NewsHour, Digital Video Producer

Casey Kuhn has spent the last decade working in audio and video reporting at public media. Currently she is a digital video producer for PBS NewsHour. Previously, she worked at several NPR member stations. She has won several awards for audio storytelling, including a national Edward R. Murrow award, as well as video production. She has covered local, national and international events, including breaking news and in-depth investigations.

ANGILEE SHAH

Charlottesville Tomorrow, CEO & Editor-in-Chief

Angilee Shah is the CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the nonprofit news organization Charlottesville Tomorrow, in Central Virginia. She is a coach for news organizations and journalism change makers around the country who specializes in building teams, budgets and editorial strategy for people and communities too often left out of media narratives. Shah spent six years as a founding editor of Global Nation, PRI’s The World’s coverage of immigration in the US, where in one year she brought 50 new contributors to the program. As a reporter and editor, her work has been read and heard around the world, including a book about everyday lives in China and a trio of investigative stories about the end of Sri Lanka’s 30-year civil war.

ANNIE PARNELL

VPM On-Air Host, Audio Producer, Writer

Annie Parnell is a writer, radio host and audio producer based in Richmond, Virginia. She is the host and producer of Jazz Weeknights and The Undertow on VPM, Virginia’s Home for Public Media. Her writing has appeared in Paste Magazine, FLOOD Magazine, The Virginia Literary Review and elsewhere.

ELLIOTT ROBINSON

Elliott Robinson has led the News Department at VPM, the NPR and PBS station for central Virginia, since August 2021. VPM News includes the radio/digital daily news team, VPM News Focal Point and Style Weekly. His nearly 20-year journalism career includes stints at Charlottesville Tomorrow; The Daily Progress, in Charlottesville; the Richmond Times-Dispatch; the Hopewell News; and The Progress-Index in Petersburg. He is a native of Hampton and a graduate of Christopher Newport University.

SANDY HAUSMAN

VPM News Director

Sandy Hausman is the Charlottesville Bureau Chief for Virginia Public Radio – a network of public stations around the Commonwealth. She also occasionally contributes to NPR programs. She came to Virginia from Chicago, where she was news director for NBC’s FM radio station, an afternoon anchor for the all-news station (WBBM), and a field producer for ABC TV. She ran her own production company for a decade, producing videos for the American Medical Association and other clients.
