Acoustic guitar, mandolin player, and singer Flynn Cohen tours with his award-winning folk band Low Lily and is a long-time sideman to Irish button accordion legend John Whelan.
His 2023 US tour features duo performances of original and traditional instrumentals from multiple fiddle music traditions as well as original, traditional, and contemporary folk songs. His guitar playing is influenced by a wide range of flatpicking, strumming, and fingerpicking styles and his mandolin work is inspired by bluegrass, old time, Irish, and classical playing.
Flynn is a former guitar student of John Renbourn, Davey Graham, and Scott Nygaard and also studied composition with Pauline Oliveros. His original music is simultaneously both experimental and traditional, staying within the bounds of his many stylistic influences but always pushing subtly against the conventions. He will be joined for the first leg of this tour by Low Lily bandmate Natalie Padilla (fiddle, mandolin, vocals).
