Time: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Old-time fiddler and banjo player Joseph Decosimo will stop by WTJU December 2 at 4 to go track by track through his new album, While You Were Slumbering. Sunset Road airs Friday afternoons from 4-6 at 91.1 FM and streaming at wtju.net.
Joseph, a resident of Durham NC, is a leading interpreter and scholar of the fiddle, banjo, and song traditions from the Appalachian South, with a particular interest in those of the Cumberland plateau of his native Tennessee. On his latest recording, he has included such non-traditional instruments as the Hardanger D’amore and bass Clarinet, as well as the more usual fiddle, banjo, guitar (and pump organ), leading to a project with which Decosimo fashions the older regional music into the transcendent. Collaborators on this project include fiddler and singer Stephanie Coleman and composer/fiddler/pump organist (and Charlottesville native) Cleek Schrey as well as local Durham luminary Alice Gerrard (Hazel and Alice) and Elephant Micah visionaries Joe and Matt O’Connell.
