Three members of the local Six Pack Songwriter series will stop by WTJU this Tuesday, May 15, for a visit with Around This Town host Sabra Guzman. David Tewksbury, Susan Munson and Shanna Hoar will bring their guitars and each play a few tunes in between talking about the entire group's upcoming show at Rapunzel's Coffee & Books on Friday, May 17.  Also joining them will be Six Pack founder Jason Burke, who will discuss the group's mission.

David Tewksbury

Having grown up in Albemarle County, and performing his original songs since 1998 David describes his sound as “locally-grown, soulful indie folk”.

A life-long lover of music of all kinds--chant to jazz and blues, trip-hop to opera, R &B to funk to indie pop-- David has been performing his original songs since 1998. He fronted the four-piece jazz-pop band Image, and the electro-acoustic duo Zofia Drone through 2002. Since then has played mainly as a solo artist. He has he has led music for three area houses of worship, spanning music styles from acapella hymns to urban gospel.  David has performed at Fridays After 5, First Night Virginia, Crozet Music Festival, Misty Mountain Music Festival, Mountain Cove Vineyards and the Glass House Winery, C’ville Coffee and Crozet Mudhouse. A frequent performer at The Local’s Monday night Songwriter’s Circle. He has shared the stage with wide-ranging artists, from Brooklyn/Nashville's Nathan Reich to The Honey Dew Drops, Brad Corrigan of college-band phenom Dispatch, and Charlottesville’s own Rusty Speidel, Michael Coleman, and Matt McAllister.

Susan Munson
Singer/Songwriter Susan Munson lives in Charlottesville and is involved in many musical projects. She is a regular at The Local’s Monday songwriter’s night and performs songs that have a country feel, leaning into the blues. As a member of Jeebus, Susan writes many of their songs and they have just released their first CD Threads:  Susan sings in the Grateful Dead cover band Alligator and an offshoot of that, Unlimited Devotion. Susan also lends her voice to Howard Johnson & Friends.

Shanna Hoar
Shanna Hoar graduated from UVA in 2011 with a degree in kinesiology, but knew her true passion lay in songwriting and performing. She grew up outside of DC and now resides in Charlottesville, where she has fallen in love with Charlottesville's community, musicians and restaurants. She plays guitar, ukulele and piano in an acoustic folk/pop style, but when asked what genre she fits into, she responds, "Happy." Her influences include Ingrid Michaelson, Jason Mraz, Julia Nunes, and Taylor Swift.  Hoar's performances have songs filled with clever lyricism, wordplay, and relatability, audience participation, and delightfully entertaining banter in between, including poking fun of her last name- which, by the way, is pronounced exactly the way you hoped it wasn't.
