Welcome to WTJU's 2004 Classical Music Marathon, December 5-12. Please accept our holiday gift of the finest in classical music with WTJU's annual Classical Music Marathon, Dec 5-12. This year we are featuring music from all around the world, but we'll also play some early music, some chamber works, a few less well known pieces, and some unusual groupings of old favorites as well. Add two operas as different stylistically as can be imagined and you have a feast for all classical music lovers. So if you are a long time loyal listener we hope you will spread the word and invite your friends to join in this year's festive celebration.
This is also an occasion to ask for your financial support. All of WTJU's announcers are volunteers, and keeping a non-commercial station on the air 365 days a year is expensive. Our facility is provided by the University of Virginia, but we are responsible for the lion's share of our operating budget, which comes primarily from the generosity of you, the listeners, and from our underwriters. Classical music first aired on WTJU in 1957: support the radio station that has consistently brought locally-produced classical programming to Central Virginia for forty-seven years.
Our goal for this fund drive is $30,000. So while you are enjoying this year's celebration of classical music, please remember what WTJU means to you all year long and consider making a generous year end pledge of $100 or whatever you can give to support the mission of WTJU. You may call 434-924-3959 during the Marathon, but why not mail a pledge form now? Then sit back and enjoy all the great shows that are coming your way.
Special thanks to Catherine Wray, Ilona Kastenhofer, and Winston Barham for their assistance enabling this week of great classical music.
And thanks again to you. Enjoy the Marathon!
