Tina Eck and Keith Carr, known collectively as Lilt, will stop by Atlantic Weekly II this coming Saturday for some live music and conversation with host Mark Rough. Joining them will be singer Eileen Estes. All three artists will be performing later that evening at a Blue Ridge Irish Music School house concert.
Lilt is the Irish traditional music duo of Tina Eck on flute and tin whistle and Keith Carr on bouzouki and banjo. They play the traditional dance music of Ireland - jigs, reels, hornpipes, the occasional slow air or song. They met in the Washington DC pub session circuit a few years ago, and found that their musical tastes and playing styles were complementary.
They have been performing together steadily since 2009. They have released two CD's; the first was a demo recording that became something of a "hit" in their local Irish scene. The second album is titled "Onward", and was completed in September 2011. In addition to Tina and Keith, it also features several well known Washington-based Irish musicians. "Onward" provides a snapshot of Lilt's capabilities and styles, and has been very well received.
Lilt has appeared in concert throughout the Washington DC region, with recent performances at The Birchmere, The Old Brogue's Celtic Concert Series, the Washington Conservatory of Music, the Washington Folk Festival, the Takoma Park Folk Festival, the FSGW Mid-Winter Fest, The Notaviva World Music Festival, and other notable venues and events. They are often accompanied by world-class Irish dancers.
