December brings the return of Charlottesville’s own Morwenna Lasko & Jay Pun  to Folk & Beyond. This duo is a force. The music comes from the heart, and bristles with excitement and inventiveness. Morwenna & Jay create a sound that's hard to describe yet impossible to forget - a music that’s infused with so many styles. Both graduates of Berklee College of Music, the violin & guitar duo started playing together in 2004 and have continued to push the boundaries of "acoustic" music. Much of the country and world hasn’t tuned in yet, but they will. One listen is all it takes. With the release of their highly anticipated 2nd CD, Chioggia Beat, their sound keeps growing and turning heads. A worldly mix of 12 brand new tunes, this fresh album showcases new ground that one wouldn't think could come out of a violin & guitar. The CD features their signature duo sound, full band format, as well as a few special guest musicians such as legendary world artist Pierre Bensusan, soul singer Ezra Hamilton, and Dave Matthews Band trumpeter Rashawn Ross. Together, they have shared shows with such greats as Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Dave Matthews Band, The Duhks, Frank Vignola Quintet, Jesse Colin Young, Darol Anger, Ralph Stanley, Corey Harris, Avett Brothers, Ben Taylor, RobinElla and more. They've also had the great pleasure & honor to play at some wonderful festivals & clubs such as FloydFest, Bristol's Rhythm & Roots, The Prism Coffeehouse, Club Passim, Eddie's Attic, and the Down Home, to mention a few.

Today they join Aer Stephen as a Duo in WTJU’s Air Studio for some conversation, to perform LIVE, and to spin a few from the new CD. You can catch them tomorrow Friday, at 8:00PM, December 4th, for a performance at nearby Rapunzel's Coffee and Books in Lovingston. Morwenna & Jay plan to tour throughout the U.S. as well as overseas, and they are excited to be bringing this music to new listeners.
