Earlier that day, Seán will also be appearing on Atlantic Weekly live from the Charlottesville City Market.
The Blue Ridge Irish Music School (BRIMS) presents the legendary Seán Keane, the unforgettable singer, multi-instrumentalist, youngest of the famous musical Keane Family of County Galway, Ireland, and yes the brother of Dolores. This is a part of Seán’s “From Ireland to Appalachia” tour. Seán is delighted to have the very talented accordionist/multi-instrumentalist, Matty Metcalfe and singer/fiddle player, Alex Caton opening for him.
Seán was described as the “greatest musical find of the 90s” by The London Independent. Traditional Irish, folk and even country and blues songs all lend themselves to his unique style and unforgettable voice. He has been collecting honors since the tender age of seven when he won his first ALL-IRELAND in the singing competition. He continued to win ALL-IRELANDS until he was around 15years of age, 13 in succession before going on to playing in bands. He now has several platinum albums as well as an Entertainer of the Year award several times and Vocalist of the year etc.
Seán’s musical influences range from traditional Irish such as Liam Clancy and Geordie Hannah, to Nashville’s own Dolly Parton who Seán gives much credit for giving him interest in American Country.
Before choosing a solo career in the late `90`s, Seán was a founder member of Shegui, an award- winning traditional band who toured mainly in the UK and continental Europe. He then joined his Sister Dolores Keane, Mairtin O`Connor and John Faulkner in Reel Union; the band toured Ireland, Europe and the US before going their separate ways. After a spell with Arcady, a star-studded traditional group which included Johnny `Ringo`McDonogh and Sharon Shannon, Seán began to pursue a solo career.
His first solo album, `All Heart, No Roses` enjoyed widespread critical acclaim and placed him at the top of the list of great Irish folk singers. `Turn A Phrase`, his second album, cemented his reputation and saw his popularity soar in Ireland. `No Stranger` and `The Man That I Am` followed in to the new millennium, both platinum albums.
