Staunton Music Festival

On this Wednesday’s edition (8/17) of The Listening Room, host Thom Pease sits down with Staunton Music Festival executive director Jason Stell to talk about this year’s festival Summer Sounds Concert Series, and the festival’s “Emerging Composers Program,” a competitive program which invites composers to submit their works. Those selected for the program are commissioned to write new works and have their compositions premiered at Staunton Music Festival performances. This year’s winner’s are Vera Ivanova and Zachary Wadsworth.

The Summer Sounds series is a nine-day celebration of vocal, choral, and instrumental music performed by visiting American and international artists performed in numerous historic Staunton buildings and churches. The festival series features eight concerts from Friday, August 19 through Saturday, August 27, along with a number of free events, such as pre-concert talks and daily lunchtime concerts. More information at the Staunton Music Festival or by calling 1-800-838-3006.

Tune in this Wednesday at 7 pm to hear recordings of music by these emerging composers, as well as to learn more about the Staunton Music Festival.
