Please tune in for a special edition of Loose Threads, Jan 18th! UVA McIntire Dept of Music PhD Student Vilde Aaslid will join Preston Palisades on air to delve into the topic of "jazz laments" The jazz community suffered many tragic deaths in the 1950s and 1960s. The bereaved musicians found a way to mourn these deaths through their music: the jazz lament. This show will explore the emergence of this sub-genre, featuring examples of jazz laments from the well-known (Goodbye Pork Pie Hat) to the obscure.
