March news from the Folk folks

Hard to believe spring is almost in the air, which means we in the folk department are getting ready for festival season.  The first big one of the year of course is Merlefest, this year running April 26-29.  After a two year hiatus, WTJU and Merlefest will be resuming our long standing relationship.  So stay tuned to WTJU for your chance to pick up tickets to the  twenty-fifth annual Merlefest.

Also coming up in March is the eighteenth annual VA Festival of the Book.  This year there will be a special VA Folklife program on the wonderful Mike Seeger on March 21 at the Haven in downtown Charlottesville,  We in the folk department will be doing special programming in advance of that event, including a visit with the great James Leva, who will stop by for some live music and conversation about Mike.  Mike Seeger was of course a longtime friend to WTJU, having made many live appearances at the station; including hosting a folk marathon show on the Southern women of the banjo back in the late 1990s.

This year's folk marathon is coming up at the beginning of May, and we are hard at work putting together the schedule.  If you have any comments about what music you might like to hear during that week, including any live musical guests, leave us a message at 434-218-FOLK (3655).  For that matter, you can leave us a message there about anything pertaining to the folk, world and specialty programming you hear on WTJU.  Or you can drop us a note on our Facebook page or by e-mail.  However you reach out to us, we love to hear from our listeners.  Thanks for listening to WTJU!
