UVA music students choose and introduce classical pieces on WTJU

Starting with Classical Sunrise on Sunday, November 18 and continuing over the next two weeks, the WTJU Classical Department will play nine selections from music students in Prof. Bonnie Gordon's fall class. In addition to the music, students created short introductory explanations for the selection of the individual pieces.

Selections include:

  • Josquin: Ave Maria
  • Holst: First Suite for Military Band in Eb
  • Adams: The baritone solo from the John Adams opera Doctor Atomic
  • Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture
  • Chopin: Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 23, V. Horowitz
  • Strauss: Vier letzte Lieder (1948): 1. Frühling, 2. September, 3. Beim Schlafengehen, and 4. Im Abendrot
  • Byrd: "Mass for Five Voices"
  • Corelli: Trio sonata Op 5 #3 C major
  • Beethoven: Sonata #5 Op 24
