Burr Beard is now General Manager of WTJU-FM
Burr Beard, New General Manager for WTJU-FM
March 19, 2010
We at WTJU are delighted to announce that Burr Beard, who has deep experience in volunteering and managing community and college radio stations, will join us on April 19 as the new general manager of WTJU-FM (91.1).
He becomes the second full-time manager of the station, following the retirement of Chuck Taylor. (Chuck "retired" Jan. 1, but graciously remained on board until we could find his successor.)
Burr is moving from Jim Thorpe, Pa., where he was most recently general manager and program director of WXLV-FM at Lehigh Carbon Community College. He's also been general manager at community stations in Bethlehem, Pa.; Rocky Mount, N.C.; and Spindale, N.C., with Isothermal Community College.
He says he was bit by the radio bug during his last two years at the University of Pittsburgh, where he volunteered at the local community station, WYEP. He holds a bachelor's degree from Pitt and studied radio, TV and motion pictures at UNC-Chapel Hill.
An accomplished hammered dulcimer musician, Burr looks forward to exploring central Virginia's music and history.
Please join us in welcoming Burr to WTJU and the University of Virginia.
