If you are interested in one of the positions listed below please submit an application to WTJU. Except where noted basic training is provided- though certain skill sets, knowledge or abilities may be required for some positions

MANAGEMENT LEVEL VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Departmental Training Coordinator
(Assist in training and mainstreaming volunteer on-air music announcers)
  • Time commitment: Varies. Coordinator may schedule training sessions to suit schedule
  • Skill sets: Radio broadcast experience is required. Experience as a volunteer trainer/coordinator in a nonprofit organization is helpful. Excellent communication skills are required. Click here for detailed description of position.
  • Source Materials: General Manager will train and orient you to WTJU-specific training issues.
  • Positions available: THREE OPENINGS (one each for Rock, Jazz & Folk music departments)
Assistant/Music Reporters
(Reporting airplay to journals and websites)
  • Time commitment: 2-4 hours a week
  • Skill sets: A minimum of six months as a volunteer at WTJU (or another radio station)
  • Immediate Supervisor: Music Director

Assistant/Music Library Manager
(File and organize recordings)
  • Time commitment: 2-4 hours a week
  • Skill sets: Basic organizational skills
  • Immediate Supervisor: Music Director
  • Positions available: TWO OPENINGS one each in Folk & Rock department
Music Database Manager
(Data entry of new recordings, update of current collection)
  • Time commitment: 2-4 hours a week
  • Skill sets: Basic typing skills and basic database experience
  • Immediate Supervisor: Music Director
  • Positions available: NO OPENING (trainees are welcome)

READER/COMPILER/PRODUCER POSITIONS

Jazz/Blues Music Calendar--Reader/Producer of concert events
(Orate a one sentence description for each entry, record and produce weekly calendar of jazz concerts and events and save as wav. file for upcoming week)
  • Time commitment: 2-3 hours a week
  • Skill sets: Interest in and/or knowledge of jazz and blues music plus basic computer experience is necessary. Experience with basic audio production, Adobe Audition or other audio editing programs is helpful, though not required.

  • Positions available: ONE OPENING
Rock/Indie Music Concert Calendar--Reader/Compiler/Producer

  • Time commitment: 2-3 hours a week

Classical Music Concert Calendar--Reader/Compiler/Producer

Public Service Announcement Writer/Editor
(Edit, rewrite or produce incoming public service announcements)
  • Time commitment: 3-4 hours a week (varies by your choice)
  • Skill sets: Excellent writing skills and an email account. Ability to complete announcements on a deadline. Click here for a detailed description of the position.
  • Source Materials: Announcements that come to the station on a weekly basis
  • Positions available: TWO OPENINGS

PROMOTIONS/DESIGN/ART

Advertising Design and In-house graphic arts
(Design and layout ads promoting station and events)
  • Time commitment: Varies and is dependent upon specific project deadlines
  • Skill sets: Experience with a design or computer design program and creative skills is required.
  • Immediate Supervisor: General Manager or Music Director provides copy and basic theme
  • Positions available: ONE OPENING

TECHNICAL PRODUCTION

Production Engineer
(Technical production for public affairs, PSAs, Promos, Interviews, etc.)
  • Time commitment: Varies
  • Skill sets: A technical background is helpful but not required. Good computer skills are necessary.
  • Immediate Supervisor: General Manager
  • Positions available: SEVERAL OPENINGS
Equipment maintenance engineer
(Clean and provide simple maintenance to studio equipment)
  • Time commitment: 2 hours a week
  • Skill sets: A technical background is helpful but not required.
  • Immediate Supervisor: General Manager
  • Positions available: ONE OPENING
Technical Assistant for prerecorded programs, live broadcasts, and Satellite Feeds
(Oversee the proper airing of prerecorded programs and satellite news broadcasts)
  • Time commitment: varies
  • Skill sets: A technical background is helpful but not required. Good computer skills are necessary.
  • Immediate Supervisor: General Manager
  • Positions available: TWO OPENINGS

OFFICE WORK

Assistant to the General Manager in maintenance of legal logs and other FCC matters
(Fill in program logs for announcers, check program logs for errors)
  • Time commitment: 2-4 hours a week
  • Skill sets: Knowledge of FCC and broadcast legal requirements is helpful, not required. Extreme care and error-free goals in reviewing documents is required.
  • Immediate Supervisor: General Manager

COMPUTER-RELATED

Website Content Provider
(Website content writers/compilers/writers/html writers)
  • Time commitment: Varies
  • Skill sets: Basic computer usage, able typing and very good editing skills are required
  • Immediate Supervisor: Web Master/General Manager
  • Positions available: TWO OPENINGS
Computer equipment maintenance
(basic maintenance)
  • Time commitment: 2 hours a week
  • Skill sets: Knowledge of basic computer maintenance for a primarily Microsoft shop
