Be sure to have your dial set to WTJU on Monday October 22nd as bassist/composer Ben Allison visits our studio to talk with Host Steve Huff on Anything goes. Ben is in town with his Quartet for a special concert co-presented by WTJU and The Charlottesville Jazz Society to take place at The Haven, First and Market, on Tuesday October 23rd at 7:30 pm.
Called “one of today’s best young jazz musicians” by the Boston Globe and a “visionary composer, adventurous improviser, and strong organizational force on the New York City jazz scene” by JazzTimes, Ben has released ten albums — Action-Refraction (2011), Think Free (2009), Little Things Run the World (2008), Cowboy Justice (2006), Buzz (2004), Peace Pipe (2002), Riding the Nuclear Tiger (2001), Third Eye (1999), Medicine Wheel (1998) and Seven Arrows (1996) on Palmetto Records — all of which showcase Ben’s forward-thinking vision as a bassist, composer, arranger, producer, and mixing engineer, as well as his hands-on approach to his craft.
Ben is one of the most respected voices in music today, both on stage and behind the scenes of the music business. Don't miss what is sure to be a fascinating and insightful conversation, between 8 and 11 pm Monday night October 22nd. You will also have a chance to win a pair of tickets to the concert at The Haven.
