4:30 pm (est)

Gina Sobel will stop by WTJU on Thursday, January 9, for a visit to Folk & Beyond to celebrate the upcoming release of The Mighty Fine's debut CD on Saturday, January 11, at Bon in Charlottesville.

Gina Sobel
grew up in a jazz household, and that improvisational spirit is found in all of her music. Gina’s first love was the flute; by age 12 she was playing with her father’s jazz band. Next came the saxophone and a focus on singing and she started to find her voice in smoky lows and powerful highs. In college, Gina picked up the guitar and began writing songs, heavily influenced by middle 60s Americana and later, genre-bending groups like Dispatch and the Derek Trucks Band, all while keeping her feet firmly rooted in jazz. Gina currently lives in Charlottesville, Virginia where she is known for her bombastic flute playing, powerful voice and textured writing.

The Mighty Fine are David French, vox/guitar; Ryan Lee, guitar; Simon Evans, bass, and  Pat Hayes, drums.
