SHABBY SHEIKS

stop by Around This Town

The Shabby Sheiks will stop by WTJU for a visit Tuesday, June 11, for a visit with Around This Town host Sabra Guzman.  They might even play one or two off their latest EP, Long Since Gone.

Shabby Sheiks is a swing-pop combo based in Charlottesville. They offer a fresh, guitar- based take on material from the 30’s and 40’s, along with originals in the spirit of the great writers and singers of that era. The players have worked together in various combinations on other projects, and have now come together around a love of these songs, and a desire to make a sound that has heart and a positive vibe built in.

The band is putting on a benefit concert at First United Methodist Church on Friday June 14 at 7pm. The concert is in support of Walking Free, an organization which brings prosthetic equipment and training to under-served areas of the world like Haiti, Guatemala, and the Philippines, where many people are otherwise without access to care and rehabilitation for limb loss. Admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted.
