Tom Marshall and Barry Lawson will stop by WTJU on Saturday morning, January 11, for a visit with Atlantic Weekly host Sumner Brown. This talented duo will be performing at Ashland Coffee & Tea on Wednesday, January 22.
Tom Marshall, a recent Charlottesville transplant by way of Idaho, has been a singer, guitar/mandolin/banjo player, and performer for over fifteen years. Tom has performed with several acts including Ben Winship, King Street Ramblers (with Pete Sibley), Slip & the Jigs, Screen Door Porch, and Phil Round. Tom can sometimes be heard hosting a folk or jazz program right here on WTJU.
Barry Lawson has been playing mandolin, guitar, and bass for more than a decade in the Richmond music scene, performing with touring and regional groups including The Honey Dewdrops, Gene & Gayla Mills, Mill Run Bluegrass Band, and The Demijohns.
As a duo, Tom and Barry's repertoire includes originals and covers from the vast terrain of traditional American folk music, bluegrass, country blues, Americana, vintage jazz, and even rock & roll. The duo describe their music as “amalgamated American music”.
