World renowned traditional Irish band Dervish will be stopping by Sunset Road this Friday afternoon, February 21, right before their concert at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, which is a benefit for Virginia Organizing.
From their lowly beginnings playing sessions in local pubs in Sligo, Dervish have attained ever increasing heights in their career, such as sharing centre stage with such names as James Brown, The Buena Vista Social Club, Oasis, Sting, REM, and Beck, accompanying almost the entire Irish Government on a trade mission to China and joining the President of Irelend on official missions to Latvia & Lithuania, representing their country in 2007 at the Eurovision Song Contest (which was broadcast to an audience estimated at 500 million), and playing in front of a crowd of two hundred and forty thousand people in Rio de Janeiro.
Their concert in Charlottesville will be the first in their current tour of the US & we are delighted that they will be visiting us here at WTJU before the concert.
