2014 Folk Marathon (Feb 3-9)

The 2014 Folk Marathon is just around the corner (February 3-9), and We've Got You Covered. Each weekday morning from 9 til noon, we will celebrate the artistry of Woody Guthrie, the Carter Family, Bob Dylan, Bill Monroe, and Hank Williams. But instead of hearing from the artists themselves, we will air other musicians covering them. That will include some live appearances from a variety of local (and some not so local) musicians.

There will be other cover shows along the way, including one on the Beatles, which will also include some special live performances. Jeff Vogelgesang, a well known musician around Central Virginia, will stop by to do a Jimmie Rodgers cover show as well.

There will be other special guest announcers throughout the week, including Charlie Pastorfield, Peyton Tochterman, Darrell Muller, Michael Mabry, Sarah White, Lee Johnson, Ajinkya Kamat, and Chris Leva. Some of them might even be bringing along their instruments (and some friends to join them). Oh, and speaking of instruments, the members of Mando Mafia will be putting together a special tribute to Kelly Perdue. Rumor is they might even be joined by a few of their offspring to play some tunes live!

Peyton Tochterman will also be one of the musical guests coming in to do a live concert that week. Also performing will be the Sally Rose Band, the Olivarez Trio, Gary Green (with Peyton), Red & The Romantics, and returning marathon groups the Buzzard Hollow Boys and Alligator.

And lest we forget, our regular announcers have once again outdone themselves with the special programs they have lined up. From the Gypsy road, to the music of coal, to the Million Dollar Quartet, to John Hartford's Aero-Plane, to JJ Cale & The Tulsa Sound, not to mention some Oud, Bollywood Gold, and Alexi Zoumbas and Greek demotic music, there is something for everyone. And Atlantic Weekly will be celebrating 25 years of being on the air by lifting a glass (or two)!

But in order for us to keep you covered, we need to reach our goal of $40,000. So please take a moment to help WTJU keep going strong by sending in your tax deductible donation to:
