Kandioura Drame on Radio Tropicale

Kandioura Drame on Radio Tropicale
June 8th, Noon-2pm

Kandioura Drame, chair of UVA's French dept, will be the guest of Bruce Penner on Radio Tropicale. Drame will play songs from the Grammy-award-winning album, "Egypt" by Youssou N'Dour. This recording emphasizes and is focused on religious thought in Senegal.

To read an essay on the album and its subject material you can go to and click on Youssou N'Dour and "Egypt", and follow the link to a 5-page explanation by Thomas Rome.

N'Dour wrote the album material to "praise the tolerance of my religion," just as it has come to be both misunderstood and misinterpreted. Musicians on the album include many long-time collaborators from Senegal as well as the Fathy Salama Orchestra of Cairo, Egypt.
